Yesterday, three of our engineers went back to school as part of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED).

Led by Lauren Vazquez, our Head of Electrical, alongside electricians Nikki and Georgie, they visited Harris Academy Primary School in Beckenham Green to deliver interactive engineering workshops and show young students what a career in modern engineering looks like.

There were plenty of hands-on experiments – including wiring and building, testing circuits and a potato-powered light!

After the event, Max Ellington, the Executive Principal at Harris Academy Beckenham Green, said:

“The sessions were truly inspirational for our pupils. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was particularly powerful for our girls to hear directly from female engineers and see the possibilities within STEM… We would very much welcome the opportunity to work together again in the future.”

Local community engagement is important to us.

As a national business, it’s easy to see communities through the lens of data, property assessments and retrofitting projects. We don’t just work in these areas; we belong to them. Supporting local schools, like Harris Academy, lets us build relationships with the people, families, and organisations that make up the areas we serve.

And by introducing students to the wonders of electrical engineering today, we hope to show that engineering is an open, rewarding career path accessible to everyone, regardless of gender or background.

Thanks to all the kids and staff at Harris Academy Beckenham Green for warmly welcoming us and allowing us to share our passion for engineering. The students were enthusiastic, engaged, and asked brilliant questions that kept our engineers on their toes!

We have already accepted the school’s invitation to return.
